Cheerfulness

"Look for the happiness your Father in Heaven has prepared for you in every step of your journey.  Happiness is a destination, but it's also a path.  'Peace in this world, and eternal ife in the world to come' is what He promises.  That is why He commands us to 'be of good cheer.'"
(President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Your Wonderful Journey Home, April 2013 General Conference)

"We live at a time in the world's history when there are many difficult challenges but also great opportunities and reasons for rejoicing.  There are, of course, those times when we experience disappointments, heartaches, and even trajedies in our lives.  However, if we will put our trust in the Lord, He will help us through our difficulties, whatever they may be."
(President Thomas S. Monson, Until We Meet Again, April 2013 General Conference)

"The fruits of cheerfulness lie within each of us, side by side with our resolution, priorities, and desires. They will never come from without. They cannot be purchased or stolen. They are above price.  When I think of those about us who are well-disciplined and anxiously engaged in being of good cheer, many great examples come to mind. They lift us with their state of mind of gladness, joy, and hope. They seem to move forward happily with an extra dimension of power and love."
(Elder Marvin J. Ashton, Be of Good Cheer, May 1986 Ensign)

"The persistence and the fortitude that enable us to press forward with cheerfulness through physical limitations and spiritual difficulties are examples of the tender mercies of the Lord."
(Elder David A. Bednar, The Tender Mercies of the Lord, April 2005 General Conference)

"The history of the Church in this, the dispensation of the fulness of times, is replete with the experiences of those who have struggled and yet who have remained steadfast and of good cheer as they have made the gospel of Jesus Christ the center of their lives. This attitude is what will pull us through whatever comes our way. It will not remove our troubles from us but rather will enable us to face our challenges, to meet them head on, and to emerge victorious."
(President Thomas S. Monson, Be of Good Cheer, April 2009 General Conference)

“The greatest compliment that can be earned here in this life is to be known as a covenant keeper. The rewards for a covenant keeper will be realized both here and hereafter. Scripture declares that 'ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God.'
(Elder Russell M. Nelson, Covenants, October 2011 General Conference)

"Thus we see, brothers and sisters, how we are justified in being of good cheer for ultimate reasons—reasons to be distinguished, however, from proximate circumstances. If, for instance, our attitude towards life depends upon the praise of men, the level of interest rates, the outcome of a particular election or athletic contest—we are too much at the mercy of men and circumstance. Nor should our gratitude for the gift of mortal life depend upon the manner in which we die, for surely none of us will rush eagerly forward to tell Jesus how we died!

Instead, Jesus calls upon us to have a deliberate trust in God’s unfolding purposes, not only for all humankind but for us individually. And we are to be of good cheer in the unfolding process."
(Elder Neal A. Maxwell, Be of Good Cheer, October 1982 General Conference

"Happiness is created. Love is its center. Its principal ingredients are sincere faith, true repentance, full obedience, and selfless service."
(Elder Richard G. Scott, Happiness Now and Forever, October 1979 General Conference)

"But to what end were we created? We were created with the express purpose and potential of experiencing a fulness of joy. 4 Our birthright—and the purpose of our great voyage on this earth—is to seek and experience eternal happiness. One of the ways we find this is by creating things.

If you are a mother, you participate with God in His work of creation—not only by providing physical bodies for your children but also by teaching and nurturing them. If you are not a mother now, the creative talents you develop will prepare you for that day, in this life or the next."
(President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Happiness, Your Heritage, October 2008 General Conference)

"As we put our faith in the Lord and keep our focus on the eternities, we will be blessed to be able to accept whatever trial we are given, for life on earth, as we know it, is only temporary, and, if we endure it well, the Lord has promised us: “And, if you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God” (D&C 14:7)."
(Elder Robert D. Hales, Behold, We Count Them Happy Which Endure, April 1998 General Conference)
